Are you already a seed saver but feel like you're “fighting alone”?

Do you want a theoretical and practical foundation to gain the confidence to start this new chapter in sustainable gardening?

Come to the workshop on September 28-29 in Petrinzel and learn simple yet effective techniques with high-quality results from experienced professionals (members of the Hungarian association Magház (www.maghaz.hu).

You will have the chance to ask questions, learn, receive & give seeds, plan, and join. Save seeds, preserve heirloom varieties, and contribute to the protection of a bit of the immense biodiversity of our lands. And all of this in a small, picturesque, and peaceful village in the Kaltal valley, full of history and abundance of fruits, vegetables, and herbs with traditional varieties: Petrinzel.

Saturday, September 28, 10:00-18:00

10:00-13:00 Botany

• Basic botanical concepts: plant anatomy, taxonomy
• Pollination methods, suitable isolation techniques

13:00-14:00 Lunch break (catering)

14:00-18:00 Propagation practices

• Number of plants needed for seed production
• Selection in the garden to preserve variety identity
• Plant protection with a focus on seed collection
• Maintaining seed viability
• Storage

Sunday, September 29, 10:00-16:00

10:00-13:00 Visit to the Humus Gardens

• Practical exercises
• Presentation of the Humus seed bank

13:00-14:00 Lunch break (catering)

14:00-16:00 Networking

• Seed exchange with experience sharing (Feel free to bring propagation material from heirloom vegetable and herb varieties from your own garden)
• Open discussion: How and when can seed savers collaborate?
• Joint future plans for the preservation and dissemination of heirloom varieties

The workshop will be held in Hungarian with Romanian translation.
